Nib
Post to your own website from your phone.
Nib is an Android app for publishing to your own website using Micropub. It's inspired by Quill, the web-based Micropub client.
Did your site's sign-in page send you here? Your site is asking whether Nib may post for you, and this page is how it identifies the app. Only approve the request if you started the sign-in from Nib on your phone.
What's planned
Nib is in early development. Sign-in is built, and these features are planned for the first version:
- Posts. Notes, single photos, replies, likes, and reposts, which you can edit or delete later.
- Sharing to Nib. Share a link from another app to reply to it, like it, or repost it. Nib follows shortened links and removes tracking parameters first.
- Uploads. Send a media file to your site and get back its address, to share, copy, or open.
- Location. Add coordinates or a venue to a note or photo, only when you ask to or turn on a setting for it.
What it needs
- An Android phone running Android 13 or newer.
- A ClassicPress site with the IndieAuth, Micropub, Simple Location, Post Kinds, and Syndication Links plugins. Other Micropub servers aren't a goal for now.
Nib is a personal project in beta. It's installed directly on the phone rather than from an app store, and there's no public download at the moment.
Your data
- Nib has no accounts, ads, or analytics, and no service of its own. It sends what you post to the website you sign in to. To expand a shortened link, it also contacts that link's service.
- It asks your site for permission to create, update, and delete posts, upload media, and read your basic profile. You sign in on your site's own page, so the app never sees your password.
- Photos and files can include GPS positions and other metadata. Photos you choose with Android's photo picker have GPS removed, but files shared to Nib from other apps are sent as they arrive.
- Your site decides who can see what you post, and what's sent to other services after that.
